MacConkey Broth is an enrichment medium modified from the original MacConkey formulation for the detection of coliform bacteria, in accordance with the European Pharmacopoeia. It uses bromocresol purple as a pH indicator, which is gentler than neutral red and less harmful to stressed coliform cells, including E. coli. Natural bile has been replaced with purified bile salts (cholate and taurocholate) to enhance selectivity and reduce turbidity caused by fat content. This combination makes MacConkey Broth an ideal choice for accurate and efficient coliform detection in food production, pharmaceutical environments, or microbiology laboratories.
