Violet Red Bile Dextrose Agar (VRBD Agar) is a selective medium used for the isolation and enumeration of Enterobacteriaceae bacteria in food, water, and pharmaceutical products. It contains bile salts and violet red dye, which inhibit the growth of Gram-positive bacteria while promoting the growth of Gram-negative bacteria from the Enterobacteriaceae family, such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Enterobacter, Klebsiella, and Proteus.
